Village Books under New Ownership
As of June 1st 2023, Village Books has been taken over by Tristan and Sierra Gilkey.
Long-standing patrons of Village Books and avid readers, this adventure is a dream come true!
We're so excited to be here!
Tristan and I have talked about owning a bookstore since we met in high school over a decade ago. We thought if we worked hard we'd be able to retire with our own shop one day and that was the dream. Imagine our surprise when the universe somehow aligned to allow us this opportunity with not just any used bookstore... but our absolute all-time favorite recycled bookstore in all of Oregon! Our heads are still spinning.
Having just completed the massive undertaking of dismantling the entire 4,000 sqft store from its previous space in the Winco shopping plaza, and rebuilding most of it again at our new spot further west, we have established a new retirement goal: Sleep.
Until then? There's no rest for the wicked! We have ideas and enthusiasm aplenty, and our one/two/five year goals for the store are a beacon of excitement in our day. We're still neck-deep in overstock, lost in the maze of alphabetizing, and learning all the things new business owners can only learn from experience... But we're pushing through, we're excited to do it, and being part of the cycle of literature that runs through this community is honestly one of the coolest experiences.
Thank you for your support, my village of people. I promise to give this project the heart it deserves.
