FAQ Related to Consignment Sales -
Question: What does selling on consignment mean?
Answer: Selling on consignment means we don't own the item; we're hosting it in our space and selling it on the creator's behalf. When an item sells, we pay the creator an agreed-upon percentage of the total price.
Question: What books will we sell on consignment?
Answer: At this time, we only offer consignment terms to authors and artists promoting their work, with priority given to Oregon and West Coast residents. If you are an author/artist, go to our Request to Host - Author or Request to Host - Artist page and tell us about your work! We do not offer consignment terms for resale items from personal collections, estate sales, etc..
Question: Why are books on consignment generally more expensive?
Answer: Because they're new, and publishing is expensive! At Village Books, we do our best to negotiate consignment terms that allow authors to maintain a lower price point for their printed work without creating a net negative on our side. Even with lower margins on our end, authors often have to settle for lower margins of their own and (in some cases we've seen) earn next to nothing after considering the actual printing costs for their book. What we can offer our authors is space and exposure - it's up to you, our community, to support their craft by covering the production cost of a crisp-paged, locally created novel.
